I was privileged enough to attend a private school. Thanks to Amma and her vast interests. It was when she was 17 that she happened up on a book by J.Krishnamurthi , and that transformed her and in essence has led to the creation of me as a person. Amma for giving birth to me, and putting me in a "k" school and to the school itself for not producing yet another soul-less pug that becomes part of this mechanical world, but a thinking , feeling person. Schools -- are meant to make you think , yeah they are responsible to give you literacy BUT that is not all. They shape you as people, they are responsible in creating the next generation -- which i feel most schools fail to do. That is the reason i feel i am privileged to have attend THE SCHOOL. It has provided me with the skills to think and through which i am what i am today. It has inspired me to pursue -- my passion to hold baby turtles in my hands and releasing them into the ocean, planting trees, taking the bus, feeling the pain of that lonely man standing by the traffic lights begging , to understand the aspirations of that little child playing along the Cooum noto knowing what tomorrow shall bring. The passion that has made me come all the way to Toronto from Chennai to follow it and which will inevitably bring me back to Chennai to continue my work. My school , The school has inspired and continues to do so......
I was taking a break from writing my thesis, when i happened upon this bit as told to my school assembly by Vivek Phadnis ( i was not there physically BUT ... i have some how managed to receive it )
"Shrunkhala payi asudhe
Meen gati che geet gayi
Dukh udhdaayas aataa
Aasvaanaa ved naahin."
Which translates into:
SO MUCH HOPE ... In this words i feel....the insignificance of being me ....
